Santa Run

  We have been looking forward to doing the Santa run since we did it last year! Last year we barely made it, this year was no different. We left plenty early, had prepaid parking, we were looking good on time until the parking garage had a line a kilometer long just to get in to it. Oh well. We met some friends at the start line and off we went. The morning was perfect for a walk. Not too hot, not too cool. The kids did an amazing job, walked the entire 5k without complaining once! It is such a fun race! Santas everywhere.

Unreal

  As we were driving home from Southern IL, we knew the weather forecast was not looking good across the state. It had been unseasonably warm but cold air was moving in quickly. We started getting texts and hearing reports of tornado watches and warnings for Central IL. And from all accounts it didn't sound like if it was going to happen but when. And then we heard. A massive tornado (F-4) had barreled thru Washington, IL. It was on the ground for over 46 miles and up to 1/2 mile wide at times. FB was going crazy with reports. Power outages from Pekin to Lacon. Hundreds of home completely destroyed. People digging their way out from basements. Thankfully there were very few serious injuries. As we drove, we checked in with our friends and family. Everyone was safe. I felt helpless being hours away and just sitting in a car. We stopped in Lincoln to pick up supplies and food for people who would need it.
  As we got closer to Washington the traffic was backed up on every road. They had to shut down roads thru town and restricted access. As we drove around we saw chunks of metal across fields. A farmhouse completely leveled.
  In the time since the tornado ripped thru the heart of IL so many things have happened. A community has showed its true character. While most days Panthers and Redbirds are sworn enemies, it didn't matter what your allegiance was, people just wanted to help! Friends, family, & strangers sent donations, volunteered with cleanup, & helped find housing for those who needed it. It has proven to me yet again what an amazing community I grew up in & still call home.
  It has also reminded me to be thankful for what I have. A plate that was special to me was recently broken by accident. Thankfully just a couple minor scratches. All I could think was at least I still have plates and no one was hurt. The tornado was a healthy does of perspective!
  We drive thru a couple of the neighborhoods that were leveled by the tornado. Thy have had to spray paint street names on the road just to identify where you are at. Part of a Welcome to Washington sign was found in Streator, IL. Photos and documents have been found as far away as Chicago. #WashingtonStrong.

Flying Solo

  I was lucky enough to get to travel back to IL in Nov. All by myself. Originally I planned to take EL with me but Matt offered to use his vacation days so I could go alone. I didn't have much planned and didn't tell too many about the trip in hopes of just relaxing and spending as much time with the fam and helping Nicole with the babies.
  My dad picked me up at the airport and we headed straight to Kara's volleyball award night. I got several "Is that Megan?" "What are you doing here?" looks and questions. Dinner at 8pm- some things never change!
  The next few days I spent hanging out with Nicole and her kiddos, seeing the fam, watching a basketball game, & dinner with friends. Saturday, Mom, Dad, Kara, & myself headed to St. Charles to meet Kat for the weekend. I can't remember the last time just the 5 of us hung out. We had a quiet night playing cards, ordering room service, and watching a movie. It was a wonderful weekend!
  The week went by way too fast- it always does. It was great to see so many friends and family even if it was only for a quick chat some times. Thanks to everyone who let me pop in when I had the time, met me for a drink or dinner and went out of their way to see me. Love you all!

Christmas Tree Decorating

  I love decorating the tree! And as the kids get older I am enjoying it more and more. We only have 1 tree (not the 5 we had in the States) here and the kids did a great job. Matt assisted with the assembly of the tree and getting the ornaments on the high branches. I put the hooks on and handed them out. Team work! I had also forgotten about the ones we made last year. Loved seeing them again and of course all our Aussie travel ornaments. The kids loved putting up their special ornaments and can tell who gave them each of them.

  Since we have moved to Australia I have been talking about getting some photos done on the beach. Our very talented friend, Janet helped me out. I can't pick a favorite, I love them all!
