DB managed to really break a finger this time. I had a front row seat for it too unfortunately. He was playing catcher ( and doing a really good job behind the plate). Sky high foul ball he went after, misjudged it coming done and broke his pinky. I knew as soon as he turned around and looked at my sitting right ther by the fence, it was bad. Coach (dad) ran out there as he walked to the dugout. I met them over there and said let's go. Thankfully the other coaches took his gear off, I rounded up EL and DB's friend that had come with us. And another parent told us there was a Urgo right around the corner. DB was in a lot of pain. We got him in to a room asap. Sat for a bit, got an xray, and then sat longer. Poor kid, the lovely people attending to us, did not give him any pain meds. AND kept moving his finger around. He almost passed out from pain while they splinted it. I was not real happy. Matt had to run back to the fields bc MA was a volleyball practice at the same complex. Came back to pick DB and I up. We still didn't have the xray results (they send them over to the hospital to get read). The office was closing. We decided to leave, we knew it was broke. No sense in sitting there waiting for official word. We went straight Dairy Queen across the road. Kids deserved ice cream after sitting thru all of that.
We decided to take him to Midwest Ortho the next day. They got us in for surgery 48 hours later. Getting in so quickly meant they could use live xray (it has some fancy name) to move his bone back in place without pins. 3 weeks in a cast and he was back at baseball. DB was hilarious when he came out of surgery. So happy and polite. Cracking Matt and I up with all his comments and questions.
