We left at the crack of dawn! 13 hours and 1,100 km we arrived in Airlie. We only stopped for fuel twice and a quick lunch at Subway. The kids did really well and Matt drove the entire way. DB & EL only slept for about 20 mins the whole drive. The kids kept themselves entertained with iPads, reading, and drawing. Matt and I did crossword puzzles off and on throughout the drive. We saw a Kangaroo and joey on the side of the road at one point. And the sugar cane fields were beautiful. They even have this rail system set up for when they harvest the sugar cane.
I may have turned into my mom. I had the kids doing exercises when we stopped and got out of the car. I read the information book in our room as soon as we got there. And I even unpacked everyone clothes straight away.
And Matt may have spent too many holidays around my dad. Here is how a conversation went as we are driving into Airlie for the 1st time.
Matt: There's a Bunnings if we need one
Me: I hope we don't
Matt: Well if something is wrong with the apartment
Me: We will call the maintenance person
Matt: What if they don't come fast enough
Ok Blair!
Dinner and bed so we were ready to explore the next day!
Day 2. I can't get over how blue-green the water is. And crystal clear. We went into town, did some exploring. Checked out the Lagoon. Dinner at Capers and some New Zealand Natural ice cream to finish the day.
As we were sitting at the beach, we look over and there is a man coming out of the water. Matt says "where did he come from? He is like a Greek God rising from the water." It was so funny. Neither one of us saw where he came from but all of the sudden he was right there.
