Go Lions!

We went to our 1st AFL game between the Brisbane Lions and the West Coast Eagles. The kids were all looking forward to going. The rain tried to spoil our fun but thankfully it cleared up in time to still make it to the game.
The Gabba is a cool venue. We sat at the very top behind the goal posts but could see the entire field from where we were. EL's highlight of the game was when a player got hurt. It's the 1st thing she says after we say we attended the game. All 3 kids did a good job sitting thru the whole game. Hot chips (french fries) at a footy game are the equivalent of a hot dog at baseball game. Everyone has them. So, of course, we needed to have them too!
Footy is a fast paced game and watching it live there is so much to see. There are so many players on the field at once. Refs all over the place. Water people running on and off the field all the time. The refs that signal the score always make me chuckle with their stiff arms and white flag twirls.
People watching is always something fun to do too. You see all walks of life in 1 spot. The die-hard fans, the casual observer, the constant beer runs, drinking wine in a tiny plastic wine cup. It all adds to the experience. When we did our favorite part of the day everyone picked the same thing- the footy game! It was clearly something we will have to do again.
They put up and take down those banners on the field between each quarter.

 Who wants a slow beer?
Waiting for the bus. He was so tired!
