Fiji- someplace Matt and I have always wanted to visit. We had been counting down the days until our trip for way too long. Grandma and Papa met us there. Tropical beach holiday with grandparents, doesn't get much better than that!
We arrived Friday afternoon and were greeted by some serious humidity at the airport. Then the fine people of Customs greeted me personally. Awesome. I forgot I had packed a couple mandarins in my bag for EL to eat on the plane. She never ate them. The Customs officers informed me I could be fined. I told them I had honestly forgotten they were in there and was happy to just toss them in the bin. They made me fill out some paperwork. I will probably be stopped if I ever try to visit Fiji again.
I never know what to expect when I travel to a new country. I don't usually do a lot of research about the place. I am more of the get there and see what there is to see type of person. The city of Nadi was not what your typical city would look like. The airport was small but large planes landed there. Think PIA. There is one main road that goes around the island. It curves around between villages and is 2 lanes wide with an occasional passing lane. Kids and adults are walking the road. Some waiting at bus stops (a makeshift grass or tin roof held up by branches).
The Shangri La Fiji has quite a bit of property. Our room was nice and we had a lovely view of the bay. The reef kept the waves a good distance out so we couldn't hear the waves crashing very well. The food was good. We stuffed ourselves every morning, at the buffet, usually a small snack in the afternoon, and then a late dinner. And lucky for us, the New Zealand Natural ice cream shop was on our walk back to our rooms. Win for everyone!
Our 1st night. So nice to spend the week with Grandma and Papa.
