Trip to the Village

Fiji is made up of small villages. Usually around 200-300 people. Each village has its own church. It is a close knit community. We took a tour of a local village. Learning about their Church, village hall, and how the community works together. The adults were given sarongs to wear while in the village. The people greeted us with lovely flower necklaces. We ended our time there with a Kava ceremony (Papa got the seat of honor again) and some singing and dancing. The men sat on one side of the hall, women on the other. After serving the Chief and elders the young men walked around and offered Kava to all of the visitors. There was no hiding. They brought you the Kava, you drank the Kava. Cheers!

This is what they use to grind up the root to make Kava

Watching how they used to make a fishing net, before you could buy them at the store.

EL & MA took gifts to give some of the children. MA had a stockpile of bracelets she made. EL gave her doll blanket to this little girl. We also shared some skittles.
