Hamner Spring

The next planned route was Franz Josef to Greymouth to Hamner Springs. With an overcast start to the day, Papa took a turn in the driver's seat. Our route took us along the Hokitika River and the Tasman Sea in Graymouth. Then we turned inland and saw the foothills and small mining towns. We took the Lewis Path Highway into Hamner Springs. The tourist attraction in Hamner Spring is the large aquatic center they have built around the hot springs. So we spent a lazy afternoon checking the place out. The kids loved all the different pools and the lazy river. Papa and Matt spent their time in the thermal pools. So much to do the entire family had a great time! Dinner at Five Stags was so nice. We watched the sun set across the valley and just relaxed. Papa had the kids do a picture competition with with iPads. They each could submit 3 photos that they had taken that day. So that was a fun activity that kept them busy for a while before dinner was served. Of course, then Papa made the rest of the adults be the judges (and we were instructed to each pick a different kid). The winner(s) got skittles from Papa's stash. Papa and the kids also had several skittle parties throughout the week. Only a papa could get away with giving kids copious amounts of skittle before putting them to bed in a camper van! Good thing we love him.

EL doing Papa's hair. He is getting the works!
