Te Anau
Day 3 was hot and sunny! Our itinerary was Dunedin-Invercargill-Te Anau. Another full day of driving. Lots of cards were played during this trip. Between 3 kids, someone was always keen for Go Fish, King on the Corner, or Crazy 8's. We drove the Southern Scenic Route through Invercargill. Stopping for a picnic lunch at the edge of town at a random park in a random neighborhood. We also learned that day to make sure you put all glasses away straight away. Even if they were dirty. Pop them back into their assigned spot or there will be a million pieces to pick up when you go around the 1st turn. The landscape was made of rolling foot hills with lakes and rivers and a couple glimpses of the South Pacific Ocean. The sheep dotted the hills. The scenic route was lovely but we all were ready to get some fresh air by the end of the day. Day 2 of Papa being hit with a nasty bug. Te Anau was a cute little town right on a picturesque lake. Lake Te Anau is the 2nd largest lake in the Southern Hemisphere by surface area and the largest by fresh water volume. There are about 2,000 people that live there, and heaps more tourists. Te Anau was the start of the Fiordlands The kids loved walking along the lake and we all had a go at skipping rocks.
